Who Will You Give to on #GivingTuesday?

“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.”
– Harriet Tubman

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving! What a great week to get in the spirit of the holidays, recognize what we are thankful for and gear up for Christmas season. I don’t know about you, but the holiday season always reminds me of the importance of giving back. Whether it be time or monetary, giving back is really what the holiday spirit is all about. And that’s why I want to remind about today – Giving Tuesday (#GivingTuesday) and an organization close to my heart, the American Cancer Society and Relay For Life.

For those of you who don’t know, Giving Tuesday refers to the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It is a movement that was started in 2012 to create an international day of giving at the beginning of the Christmas and holiday season. The idea was to balance the post-holiday Black Friday and Cyber Monday craze with a day of focusing on solely on giving back. What I love most about this day is that not only do a ton of organizations benefit from this cause, for at least one day out the year, it’s a day of focusing on the positive!

In addition, this day gives me the perfect opportunity to talk about the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. What many people don’t know is the Relay For Life movement actually started in Tacoma in 1985! How cool is that? One person from Tacoma is responsible for a GLOBAL cancer movement! Each year more than 5,000 Relay For Life events take place in over twenty countries. For the entire history, click here.

As a volunteer and a Board Member for the American Cancer Society, I have so many reasons that I am passionate about Relay For Life that I could write a book. However, I don’t think I need to convince anyone why they should donate to such an important cause as cancer touches everyone’s life in one way or another. What I do want to ask is to keep Relay For Life in mind on Giving Tuesday. Whether you want to donate or participate, no action is too small.

Here are a few ways you can get involved:

Help spread the love on #GivingTuesday. Thank you for considering Relay For Life!
