With the end of school and the weather warming up
its that time of year again…. When we all get the question….
“What are we going to do this SUMMER!?!?”
Here is my Top 10 Tacoma – Summer 2017 must do List (in no particular order)
Enjoy!!
Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium https://www.facebook.com/PtDefianceZoo/
Newly renovated and expanding the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is a “must” for all ages. With rotating environments you have an opportunity to view your favorite animals in different surrounds, which makes for a new experience every time you visit the PDZA.
Must do at the ZOO – picture with the new Ivan the Gorilla statue (for more on Ivan check out my blog post here https://www.tonercapital.group/uncategorized/blog-4/ )
Net Shed #9 https://www.facebook.com/Netshed-No-9-494961067237809/
Breakfast or lunch at this truly Northwest restaurant is a wonderful way to spend a summer day. Perfect for a day outing and if you have friends in from out of town this is a “MUST DO”. With seating inside and out, the deck seating extends out over the water to give you a feel of eating dockside. Enjoying a meal here you become a part of the vibrant “Harbor” waterfront.
Must try from the menu at Net Shed #9 The Short rib bahn mi sandwich with a cup of clam chowder
4th of July Parade in Steilacoom
Steilacoom is one of the hidden jewels of the Northwest and the 4th of July Parade is one of the primer community events. A charming town with a great community which makes the 4th of July parade feel more like a family reunion! With events all day long, including a parade, actives for the kids, a beer garden for the adults and to cap it all off a historic fireworks show.
Must do at the Parade – Face painting for all ages!
Point Ruston https://www.facebook.com/PointRuston/
Quickly becoming a destination location in Tacoma, Point Ruston offers options for everyone. With a free summer concert lineup Saturdays from 5 – 7 until September 2nd and a spray park you could spend your full summer here and still not do everything. A backdrop of Commencement Bay you won’t be disappointed by the views.
Must do at Point Ruston – walk along the waterfront at sunset, simply beautiful!
Fircrest Soapbox derby https://www.facebook.com/derbydaysfircrest
Mark it on the calendar for July 8th . One of the best community events to experience. The streets will be lined with people, the kids will be selling lemonade and you won’t believe how fast some of Soapbox cars go! Must do at the Fircrest Soapbox derby – stand at the finish line and see the faces of the racers – true excitement!
Proctor District or Downtown Tacoma Farmers’ Market
https://www.facebook.com/proctorfarmersmarket/

Tacoma Farmers’ market (downtown) is on Thursdays from 10 – 3 May 4 – October 26th
Proctor District Farmers’ Market is on Saturdays March 25 – December 16 9 – 2.
Both markets feature some of the best local foods including garden fresh vegetables and fruits. Delicious BBQ and fun activities for all.
Must do at the Farmers market – purchase some delicious meat or vegetables for that summer backyard BBQ.
MSM Deli for a Sandwich https://www.facebook.com/MSM-Deli-81746047858/
There is a real chance that if you aren’t looking for it you’d drive right past it! Ask the Locals who are in the know what MSM stands for…. are you ready for it…? MAGICAL SANDWICH MAKERS. That’s right, these sandwiches are not only legendary but they also possess a magical power to fill your tummy! The line is typically out the door so I like to call ahead and have it ready!
Must have at MSM deli – Mikes Deluxe… enough said!
Scoop (or two) at Ice Cream Social https://www.facebook.com/icecreamsocialcart/
Nothing says a perfect summers day like a cone or bowl of tasty handcrafted ice cream made from only quality, natural ingredients. Each small batch is made fresh without using artificial stabilizers, preservatives, colors or flavors. Plus, they use local sources as often as possible.
Must have at Ice Cream Social – 1 scoop of Valhalla Coffee & 1 scoop of Salted Caramel in a cone
Narrows Brewing https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=narrows%20brewing
Truly a Tacoma experience where you can enjoy a locally crafted IPA and watch a pod of orca’s swim by. Ok, the orcas aren’t always there but they do come by from time to time. What is guaranteed is a magnificent view and tasty beverages. Watching the boats come in and out on a sunny day is well worth checking out this one of a kind location.
Must try at Narrow Brewing – Galloping Gertie Golden Ale
Walk around Chambers Bay https://www.facebook.com/ChambersBayGolf/
Growing up in Seattle loving Discover Park, Green Lake, and Golden Gardens, I have found them all in one… Chambers Bay has it all and more! With a walking track around the entire park you can enjoy views of the South Sound islands, the Olympic mountains and sunsets which cannot be described in words. When friends come into town this is my go to location to show them just how amazing it is to live in our area!
